Reserve Collection

Christmas Berry honey is also known as Brazilian pepper honey. The plant, Schinus terebinthifolia, is sometimes called Brazilian pepper, Christmas Berry, or Florida Holly.

Flavor and Character

Christmas Berry honey has a rich, complex sweetness that many tasters describe as caramel like. Some notice a subtle hint of licorice or warm spice, but it does not taste like licorice candy. Based on our customer experience, many people who dislike licorice still love this honey.

What Makes Christmas Berry Special?

  • The Brazilian pepper plant is native to Brazil, Argentina, and nearby parts of South America. It is now established in Florida, Hawaii, and Southern California, where it is considered invasive.
  • It is an evergreen shrub or small tree. It may grow as a dense, multi stem bush or mature into a tree around 30 feet tall.
  • The names Christmas Berry and Florida Holly come from its green foliage and bright red berries, which often ripen around the holiday season. It is not a true holly.
  • In Florida, the plant generally blooms during the fall. The honey flow and harvest may extend from late fall into early winter, depending on location and weather.
  • Christmas Berry honey often remains liquid longer than many common wildflower honeys, although it may eventually crystallize like any natural honey.
