Our Partnership with Spencer's Bees

Local bees, local education, and a friendship that helped shape our own beekeeping adventure.

How It Started

After Mark Spencer moved to Ortonville, he was looking for places to host hives. We connected with him in 2025, and in spring 2026 he established 17 hives on our property. The number of active colonies naturally changes with colony health and the season. The Spencer's honey we feature comes from hives located right here on our property.

Mark has been beekeeping since 2012 and has grown that interest into full time beekeeping in Southeast Michigan. As a veteran beekeeper, he playfully refers to himself as a Bee Master. He also teaches, consults, and helps other people learn how to care for and understand bees. If you see a truck driving around with a massive bee on the side, there is a good chance you have found Spencer's Apiaries.

Mark and Rebekah

Together, Mark and Rebekah Spencer make quite the wellness power couple. Mark's work centers on bees, pollinators, and a healthy environment, while Rebekah focuses on personal wellness and nutrition. Rebekah is the founder of Rebekah's Health & Nutrition, which has four Michigan locations.

And Then Came Zip and Zap

Working with Mark and having Spencer's hives on our property helped deepen our interest in beekeeping. That journey eventually led to our own two backyard hives, Zip and Zap. They have become part beekeeping project, part education, and part entertainment.
